Hey,
You know the 1D with the 100-400mm L we saw on the weekend? Well, the L comes with a lens hood when you buy it, and the minimum focal distance is 1.8m (not 30cm). And I’ll also wager that the 1D comes with a neck strap. But I guess just because you have the parts doesn’t mean you have to use them, right?
Basic maths states that the lens will not produce a sharp image (or in this person’s case ‘make a non-blurry picture thing’ short of the minimum range.

But what really trips my trigger is that the camera is so good that it probably compensated for the stupidity of the complete truncheon using it and produced fantastic image after fantastic image. Being that both the camera and lens were set to Auto, I wonder, if set to Manual, said truncheon could make the camera work…
